What is the Tweed & Area Arts Council?

The Tweed & Area Arts Council (T&AAC) is a volunteer organization created in 2006. Membership is open to all who wish to join.

The T&AAC was incorporated in 2007 and is a registered charity with the Canada Revenue Agency. Charitable tax receipts are issued for memberships and donations. The volunteer board is elected by the members at the annual general meeting. Board members serve one or two-year terms.

Who Should be Involved in T&AAC?

Some members are supporters without direct involvement in the arts. Others are painters, potters, actors, musicians, dancers, and writers. T&AAC welcomes everyone with an interest in the arts.

What Does T&AAC Do?

On its own and with partners, over the years T&AAC has:

  • Developed the Marble Arts Centre - MAC - in Actinolite
  • Produced the annual 'Art in the Park'
  • Presented the T&AAC Student Theatre classes and productions
  • Hosted productions by the Marble Arts Players, Tweed Summer Youth Theatre, Tweed & Co. Theatre and others at the MAC
  • Sponsored an annual writers' competition
  • Provided space at the MAC for the annual Tweed & Area Studio Tour and Alberta Young Jamborees
  • Shown classic movies at the MAC and Moira Place long-term care facility ....and much, much more.

Making the Case for Culture - Why Should We Support the Arts in Our Community?

The reasons to support culture are many. Art has a value for its own sake and for its contributions to cultural development. But is also makes wider contribution. Communities take pride in identifying their distinctive culture and creativity. Economic benefits to the community go hand in hand with the arts.*
